One of the largest categories of Psalms is the lament psalms. Yet many of us don’t really know what to do with these psalms. We feel uncomfortable with their raw language. But lament is a language Christians need to understand and utilize. It is given to us by the Lord to grow our trust and dependence upon him in the difficult situations of life.
Mark Vroegrop’s book, Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy, is a tool to help us understand what lament is and how we lament. Interweaving his own personal story of pain and loss and how he grew to understand God’s purpose in our lament, Vroegrop teaches us that lament is a, “Prayer in pain that leads to trust.” Everyone at CBC would benefit greatly from reading this book.
